Inn History

In 1849, Dr. Jonathan Leonard, a Harvard graduate, built this Victorian mansion for his family. Dr. Leonard practiced medicine and surgery before settling in Sandwich. He was described as “a gentleman of most estimable character, possessing in an uncommon degree benevolence, humanity, and generosity” (Genealogical Memoir of the Leonard Family by WM. R. Deane, Boston).

In 1874, Isaiah Jones purchased the mansion for his family. Isaiah, along with his wife, Hannah Weeks Jones, raised their family of eight here. In 1875, Isaiah built the Carriage House, and the mansion was named the Isaiah Jones Homestead.

In 1987, Vincent Catania converted the mansion into a bed & breakfast inn. He opened the dining room in 2004, featuring large bay windows that overlook the beautiful gardens. The interior is adorned with cherry paneling, a library, and a fireplace. With respect to the inn’s history, the Catania family preserved the history and style of the house for many years.

In 2010, Katherine and Donald Sanderson purchased the inn. They maintained the Homestead’s legacy of hospitality, serving guests for 18 years.

In 2023, Eric Flaxman took over the inn, continuing the traditions of the previous owners. Eric welcomed guests to experience this historic bed & breakfast as their perfect home away from home and live like Cape locals during their stay.

In July 2024, Robert and AnaLisa Luippold purchased the Isaiah Jones Homestead Bed and Breakfast and immediately began renovations to modernize the historic home while preserving its Victorian charm. Their passion for hospitality shines through in every detail, ensuring that each guest feels welcome and at home.

Robert and AnaLisa take pride in offering attentive and thoughtful service, from providing local recommendations to ensuring your stay is comfortable. They warmly welcome you into their home and invite you to explore and fall in love with Sandwich, just as they have. Whether you are here for a romantic getaway, a business trip, or a family vacation, they are dedicated to making your visit memorable.

At the Isaiah Jones Homestead Bed and Breakfast, everyone is treated as friends and family.
